Drunk man pussywhips fiancee in feline felony

You read that headline correctly!!

July 28 2003 at 01:15PM
Ludwigslust, Germany - A man who whipped his fiancee with a cat faces prosecution under Germany's strict animal-rights laws, police said Monday.

In a drunken rage, the 43-year-old picked up the pet cat and repeatedly beat his fiancee with the feline until the animal was a bloody pulp.

It was unclear whether the 49-year-old woman would file charges of assault. She sustained cuts and bruises.

The cat did not survive and the man now faces prosecution under stiff animal-rights laws.

A year ago, Germany amended its constitution to protect the rights of all animals. Persons who unlawfully harm or kill animals are liable to steep fines and jail terms. - Sapa-DPA

Bloggers Gain Libel Protection

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last Tuesday that Web loggers, website operators and e-mail list editors can't be held responsible for libel for information they republish, extending crucial First Amendment protections to do-it-yourself online publishers.

While yours, truly does make every effort to only comment on factual items, stories such as this serve to calm any fear of being sued out of existence (fguratively and literally!)

"One-way news publications have editors and fact-checkers, and they're not just selling information -- they're selling reliability," said Cindy Cohn, legal director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. "But on blogs or e-mail lists, people aren't necessarily selling anything, they're just engaging in speech. That freedom of speech wouldn't exist if you were held liable for every piece of information you cut, paste and forward."

AMEN!

Even When Not on a Phone, Cell Phone Users Are More Distracted When Driving

Even When Not on a Phone, Cell Phone Users Are More Distracted When Driving Is There a 'Distracted-Driver Personality' Type?

According to an analysis by Response Insurance of their national driving survey, people who use cell phones when driving are more likely to be distracted from
the road even when they are not talking on a phone. The results indicate there
may be a "distracted-driver personality" type behind the wheel.

OH PLEASE! Now we're really going off the deep end!! Now there are personality traits that can be traced to using a cell phone?

When compared to drivers who do not talk on cell phones, drivers who use cell phones are 56% more likely to be distracted behind the wheel while thinking about what to eat; 36% more likely to be distracted thinking about relationship issues; 32% more likely to be distracted when thinking about their jobs; 27% more likely to be distracted when thinking about health concerns; 21% more likely to be distracted when thinking about family issues, and 19% more likely to be distracted when thinking about money issues or bills.

I know quite a number of people who have cell phones who don't use them except in emergencies, so I wonder if they are included in this class of distracted people. So what is next? We start giving medical assistance to those who are afflicted with this 'personality'?

Or perhaps it is that people who are preoccupied with so many things in their lives naturally gravitate to cell phones as a way to keep those things in order? Nahhh.. that would be reasonable!
