Even FOOLS think the economy is getting better!

Jeff Fisher of THE MOTLEY FOOL outlines reasons why the economy is doing better than many in the media would have you believe.

A Classic Recovery?
By Jeff Fischer (TMF Jeff)
August 29, 2003
With any luck, the stock market will be off to a strong start in September, gaining support from today's bevy of encouraging economic data. The positive data -- including the Chicago Manufacturing Index and consumer spending numbers -- has not lifted the market much today, though likely because it's the last Friday of August and the start of a holiday weekend.

But the beat goes on: The Purchasing Management Index (PMI) from Chicago, which measures results in the Midwest, rose to 58.9 last month, up from 55.9 and topping the 55.5 estimate. A number above 50 indicates economic expansion. Today's 58.9 is the highest reading since May 2002 and, more significantly, the fourth increase in a row, indicating steam building in the economy. .... more ....

Double standards

Today's entry is something that might make you grin at first, but upon reflection, demands answers to a few questions...

Birthday Party Gone Bad
Mom Accused of Stripping for Boys

SHARON, PA-August 27, 2003 — A Pennsylvania woman was arrested after allegedly buying her son and 3 of his friends beer and stripping for them in a hotel in an attempt to make up for a failed birthday trip to ride go-carts.

The 34-year-old woman was ordered Friday to stand trial on charges of corruption of minors, indecent assault and reckless endangerment stemming from the alleged July 26 party.

Police said the youths met at a western Pennsylvania go-cart track to celebrate the birthday of the woman's son. When the boys discovered all the go-carts rented out, the woman drove to Ohio to buy beer and then took the youths to a hotel, police alleged.

In the room, the woman gave the boys beer, gave them $1 bills, told them she wanted to be a stripper and asked them to put the money in her bra and panties, police said. She also exposed herself and asked the boys to spank her, police said.

Police did not give the boys' ages, but according to the charges, they are under the age of 16.

The woman's son said he was embarrassed by her actions, police said.

The woman has an unlisted number and could not be reached for comment by The Associated Press on Tuesday. It was unclear whether she had an attorney. She was free on bail and has been barred from seeing the boys, authorities said.

OK, so here are the questions:

* She is barred from seeing the boys: How nice. Does this include her son, too? Poor reporting.

* Double Standards: does anyone see the double standard?? If a 34 year old man did a similar act with a bunch of 12 year old girls, he would be hung from a yardarm before sundown (and rightfully so!). Here, it makes the 'Bizarre News' section of an ABC-TV affiliate, and has probably been the source of much humor on morning radio and TV.

But why is it seemingly OK that a woman does this act, and a man automatically considered the scorn of the earth?

Makes me wonder...

It's bigger than just the 10 Commandments

If you think Alabama Cheif Justice Roy Moore's stance in favor of the 10 Commandements monument just a lot of noise about nothing, think again.

Statement: Chief Justice Roy Moore - Rotunda State -Judicial Building - Montgomery, Alabama -August 14, 2003

First, this is not about the Ten Commandments!

Quoting from the Court’s Order dated November 18, 2002:

“But in announcing this holding today, the Court believes it is important to clarify at the outset that the Court
does not hold that it is improper in all instances to display the Ten Commandments in government buildings,
nor does the Court hold that the Ten Commandments are not important, if not one of the most important,
sources of American law.”

Judge Thompson specifically declared the issue to be “... can the State acknowledge God?”. He then found
my actions to be wrongful because I acknowledged the God of the Holy Scriptures as the source of our law.

The Court said simply that to recognize God is unconstitutional. Herein lies the problem!

Stay tuned!!

Yet another candidate??

This just in: adding to the huge cast of characters running to replace California Governor Gray Davis, former Iraqi Information Minister Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf has announced his intention to win the recall election.

Promising that "God will roast their stomachs in hell" al-Sahaf promises to put on a spirited race against all of the other potential governors, especially Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I can assure you that those villains will recognize, will discover in appropriate time in the future how stupid they are and how they are pretneding things which have never taken place."

Bill O'Reilly Talking Points

The ACLU Strikes Again
It is well past time for Americans to begin dealing with the insanity that is taking place in the courts, in the press, and in the schools. In recent weeks, we have been told by a city councilman who favors reparations that Abraham Lincoln didn't much care about freeing the slaves, by a Boston University professor that there was no rivalry between the radical preacher Jesus and some in the Jewish hierarchy, and by an Episcopal bishop that there is no tension between the gay bishop and some scriptural passages.

Come on. Denying the obvious is intellectually dishonest. We are now living in a time where facts and evidence no longer exist for agenda-driven fanatics. And few in the media are challenging the insanity.

Usually, we debate issues here on The Factor. Not tonight. This Boy Scout ruling by Judge Napoleon Jones in San Diego is simply dangerous and should be condemned by all fair-minded Americans. When judges have the power to subvert the Constitution, rather than uphold it, we are all in major trouble. And that's the situation we are facing with the ACLU, again leading the way.

Read the entire Talking Point here. Stand up for the BSA!

TIME TO ACT! The Boy Scouts of America are under attack!

A U.S. District Court judge ruled last Thursday the Boy Scouts is a religious organization, and the agreement to use Balboa Park (San Diego, CA) violates the First Amendment's ban on state-sponsored religion.

Last week, the ACLU successfully won a lower court ruling, suggesting that BSA is a religious organization. Anyone even remotely familiar with BSA knows that while BSA professes a 'duty to God', it does not specifcially identify a 'god', nor does it limit the deity (Scouts can worship Mother Nature).

This is the latest in a string of attacks against BSA in all areas. Recently, in Philadelphia, the City has been pressured to revoke a multi-decade lease to the local BSA, on the grounds that they discriminate. The United Way, the group that pressures you donate each year with their office-based fund drives, the group that was involved in the mismanagement of the millions donated to the Septemeber 11th relief funds, is now agressively acting to pull all of its funding from BSA across the nation.

It is time to stand up for the rights of BSA, as a private organization, to freely associate as it sees fit. United Way, et al, are free to give the money it has to whomever it wants, and BSA is free to admit members as it sees fit. The twisting of the laws (as seen above) is doing tremendous damage to the BSA, and it needs to be fought and won.

For starters, you can reject the bully ways of the United Way by making your donations to your local charities yourself, and not to UW. While your money will eventually get to your charities via UW, they take overhead out, so why not see to it that every cent of your money goes to your charity? Reject their bully ways, reject their attacks on BSA, and donate directly to your charities, and to BSA. Go to your local Troop or Pack, or click here:
