Yahoo! News - Boy Scouts' Anti-Gay Policy Challenged

Boys Scouts of America are, unfortunately, coming to a crucial point in their existence.

The issue in play in particular involves the Cradle of Liberty Council, the nation's third largest Council with some 87,000 members in the Philadelphia region. CLC voted this month to add "sexual orientation" to its nondiscrimination policy.

The national BSA organization has two choices, both unpleasant. They can ignore the CLC decision, pretend it never happened, and forever be branded as a hyporcrit on it's gay-policy. The alternative is threaten to pull the charter of CLC, and if CLC in unwavering, BSA must follow through on its threat. The political fall out will be intense, but Nat'l has, in my opinion, no other choice.

Were BSA to ignore the move by CLC would be the moral equivilent of ignoring everything they've fought for these last years. Too much political blood has been spilt in that endeavor for them to go back on their word now.
